Thank you for helping us feed rescued wildlife

Thank you so much to our Matched Giving partners and the amazing people who gave a donation on our Giving Day - we are so grateful! Your support means we can feed thousands of vulnerable native animals through the months to come with lifesaving specialist food and formula.

Every year WIRES spends almost $500,000 on nourishing food for wildlife in our care.

And every year we see an alarming increase in those hungry mouths (particularly in Spring!) as more and more native animals have need of our urgent rescue and care.

Thank you for helping us to provide life-giving, supplementary food and expert care for thousands of rescued native animals in urgent need. Together, we're giving rescued native animals their second chance in the wild!

a fairer deal

The native animals who come into our care truly have nothing. They've borne the brunt of relentless habitat loss, making them more vulnerable to starvation, extreme weather and the daily horrors of our human-dominated world.

Funds raised from our Giving Day will give rescued native animals the dedicated care and specialist food they need for a second chance of life in the wild. It's one step towards a better and fairer future for Australian wildlife – so, thank you for helping!

The impact you'll have

Your support will help us feed rescued native animals during their critical rehabilitation period, so wherever possible they can be returned to life in the wild.

supporting our Wildlife Carers

Spring and summer are the busiest months for our Wildlife Carers, as they are frequently overwhelmed with young joeys and pups in need of specialist care. Those numbers have been increasing steadily over the past few years, particularly during floods, bushfires and extreme heat. The rehabilitation period for many species can last up to 18 months - that's a long time to feed hungry mouths!

Providing food for desperate wildlife

Feeding animals in care varies from species to species and across different ages. Koalas and gliders in particular have very complex gut flora - and feeding them the wrong foods can have disastrous consequences. Specialist supplementary food can be very expensive - but it makes all the difference to wildlife in care - providing them with health, resilience and strength to survive in the wild.

expert care makes a huge difference

Many of the native animals who come into our care are extremely young. They require complex care and an expert knowledge of their dietary needs. The tiniest orphans need up to six feeds a day – and it can be a delicate undertaking feeding mouths that small. Your donations today will make sure rescued wildlife receive the specialist food and expert care they need to thrive in the wild.
