WHAT DO I NEED TO CONSIDER BEFORE GETTING STARTED?
Here are some handy pointers for you to consider before you start your fundraiser:
Step 1: It's all in the idea!
Start with something you enjoy doing when deciding on your fundraising idea. Hiking, walking, swimming challenges for instance, may galvanize your troops if you enjoy physical challenges. Or, hosting a dinner party or a trivia night might be more your thing.
Step 2: Set yourself a target!
Think of a realistic target you can set for your fundraiser based on how hard you want to go out in promoting it. We often encourage fundraisers to set a lower target to begin with so there's opportunity to grow.
Step 3: Register
Follow our prompts to register your fundraiser. It's a legal requirement that anyone fundraising on behalf of a charitable organisation must register the fundraiser online or by sending a request to: fundraising@wires.org.au to receive an Authority To Fundraise in order to commence the fundraising activity.
Step 4: Personalise your fundraising page and start promoting!
When you choose to register your fundraiser for us, you'll receive your own unique fundraising page URL which you can personalise with your stories, pictures, or anything else which inspired you to take action for Australian wildlife. You can then share this URL with your friends, family and colleagues to ask for their support for your fundraiser. Be proud- YOU are helping to save sick, injured and orphaned native animals!
Step 5: Thank you supporters
The power of a 'THANK YOU' cannot be underestimated. Remember to thank everyone who has supported you in your mission to help wildlife in urgent need.
WHAT MESSAGING SHOULD I USE WHEN PEOPLE ARE DONATING OR PARTICIPATING?
CAN I CHOOSE WHERE MY MONEY GOES?
WILL WIRES HELP PROMOTE MY EVENT?
Unfortunately, due to our privacy policy restrictions we are unable to invite or promote your activity on your behalf.
While we will provide everything we can to make your fundraiser a roaring success, there are some things you will need to do yourself. However, don't feel you need to go it alone- please reach out if you need any further resources, or if you need help with any of your fundraising material.
CAN I SEND A CHEQUE OF MY RAISED DONATIONS?
Collecting donations via your online fundraising page will make your life easier as the donations will come straight to WIRES and your supporters will automatically be issued a receipt. Their donation will also be added directly to your fundraiser target on your page. That said, if you receive offline donations and would prefer you send those to WIRES in the form of a cheque, you must make the cheque payable to WIRES and then send it to:
WIRES PO BOX 7276
WARRINGAH MALL NSW 2100
Please be sure to pop us an email at: fundraising@wires.org.au so we can look out for it!
DOES WIRES COVER MY INSURANCE FOR MY FUNDRAISER?
WIRES cannot allocate vital funds to cover insurance for this purpose nor does our public liability cover community fundraising events. So, just keep this in mind if you're a daredevil as you may want to reconsider your event idea!
CAN I USE THE WIRES LOGO TO PROMOTE MY EVENT?
CAN I USE MY OWN IMAGERY OF WILDLIFE IN THE PROMOTION OF MY EVENT?
Unfortunately, there are lots of legal requirements around the handling of our native wildlife. For this reason, we have provided you with some approved hero images which you can use for your event promotion.
WILL PEOPLE WHO DONATE GET A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE RECEIPT?
Anyone who donated $2 or more through your online fundraising page will automatically be emailed a tax deductible receipt.
MY QUESTIONS HAVEN'T BEEN ANSWERED- CAN I SPEAK WITH SOMEONE?
Sure. We would love to assist you as you progress along your fundraising for WIRES journey. You can contact us via email at: fundraising@wires.org.au or phone: (02) 8977 3396
