Tasmanian Turbo Chooks

Walk on the Wild Side 2025

That's a wrap! - Biggest Bushwalk next!

Go Turbo Chooks!  We ended up surpassing our goal to make $3649/3000.  Well above our original $500 plan.  Big shout out to The Goats team who charged back into the leaderboard to end up at $4046!

Collectively the Turbo Chooks walked 752km, or from Couta Rocks to Kingston the long way around.  That's seven days of non-stop, 24hr walking!

Next up is Australian Conservation Foundation's Biggest Bushwalk - everyone is welcome to join the team and keep walking there:

We did it! Go team!

Thanks to an epic last minute push from some of our members, we have crossed the $3000 line in flying colours.

And we are, right now, currently ahead of The Goats by $6.  But with a day to go we bet they'll charge ahead again.
We love you goats!

$195 to go, 634km down, City Nature Challenge weekend!

We have nearly cracked the $3000 mark which is an exceptional first foray into fundraising for so many of us!  And we have collectively walked 634km, which is nearly as far as walking from Smithton to Hobart, via the East Coast.

Share those fundraising links on socials, and sponsor our members who are still trying to meet their fundraising goals!

This weekend is City Nature Challenge weekend too, so make sure you are uploading images of plants, animals and fungi you see while out and walking to iNaturalist.

PS:  Shout out to The Goats who have taken the number one position on the leaderboard.  They're currently $66 in the lead.

Nine days and $435 to go!

We're nearly there team!  So many of us are super close to our fundraising goals.
Time to share your links and walking maps on socials for that one big push to get over the line.
The Turbo Chooks are still at the front of the teams leaderboard, but The Goats are racing up behind us, and will catch us in $226.

There will be a Turbo Chooks team for the Australian Conservation Foundation's Biggest Bushwalk as well, if you're interested in walking more in May.

Racing up the board! New Goal $3000

Go team Turbo Chooks!

Today, 11 April, we reached $2168/2000.  So it's time for another new goal - we've still got 19 days so let's see if we can crack $3000.

While we know it's not a competition, and that everyone's money is going to a great cause, I think we should be proud that right at this moment we have reached NUMBER ONE on the teams Leaderboard.  Now we'll have to keep working hard to stay in the lead.

If you want to join our team, there is still time and we'd love to have you on board.

Bump it up! New goal $2000

Everyone is doing an amazing job, and on 8 April we've made it to $1592/1500.  So we need a new goal.

We know cost of living is tight for so many of our friends and family, but we're going to bump it to $2000.  That's an average of another $50 per team member for the month.  As always, encourage your friends to sign up to our team too.

We're currently 5th on the team leaderboard.

Stretch goal!

Well done to everyone!  We made it to $507/500 on 4 April, so we are extending our team goal to $1500.

Welcome! Great to have you walking with us.

Glad to have a team starting out!  Feel free to invite your friends to join, or just sponsor you.
You're welcome to join us from anywhere around the world.
As a few of us are Launceston (Tasmania) based, we might try to have a few in person walks too, if there is interest.
Follow the Launceston STEMinist page and we'll post there (and here).

Walk like a Tassie Nativehen and help WIRES

The Launceston STEMinists invite you to join our Tassie team to raise funds for WIRES.

************************
This April, we are taking part in Walk on the Wild Side to support our scaly, furry and feathered friends.

Australian native animals are in crisis. More than 1,900 of our plant and animal species are threatened with extinction, including our iconic koalas, which are now endangered in many parts of Australia.

Our team is conquering this challenge to raise funds for WIRES to give sick, injured and orphaned native animals their second chance of life in the wild.

Every year, WIRES responds to 150,000 urgent calls for help and assistance for animals in distress.

Your donation will make sure they can continue to rescue, rehabilitate and release native animals in distress, giving them a second chance of life in the wild.

Please DONATE NOW and support our challenge to save and protect our wildlife.
